Dream of sitting under a palapa on a gorgeous unspoiled beach with nobody around? Then, you’ll love this. Our house sits 50 meters from the high tide mark on Playa Zancudo, a true gem. Playa Zancudo is a 6 mile long peninsula protruding into the lower half of the Gulf of Golfito (Golfe Dulce). Our house faces west into the opening of the gulf which provides decent size waves for surfers, boogie boarders and body surfers. Sunsets are incredible! The other side of the peninsula faces a river delta opening into the gulf. Zancudo has a local population of about 350 with another 250 expats (most of which are part timers) from around the world. It is home to the famous upscale Zancudo Lodge for fishing but the area is quaint and low key. There are about a dozen quiet restaurant/bars, a small school, church, police station, 2 small markets and a handful of cabinas for rent. It’s idyllic!
Take a fishing charter, kayak up a wild river, take a boat across to Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park which contains 2.5 % of the world’s biodiversity in 164 square miles (National Geographic called it “The most biologically intense place on earth in terms of biodiversity”), take a 2 hr walk on the beach and pass just a handful of people or just lie on our hammocks under swaying palms with your favorite cocktail. The tidal range is 13 feet so at low tide, the beach is gigantic! It is a black sand beach due to its volcanic origin. Driftwood abounds so let your creative juices flow for your one of a kind art. Or, pile it up and enjoy a bonfire on the beach at night after your cocktail fueled sunset.
