Positive: What a great place Tommy has created on Delft Island! We had wanted to travel to the ‘most remote island’ in Sri Lanka for some time - and getting on the small ferry full of locals and the various necessities of life: from food to building materials (!) really brought home the adventure we were going on… On arrival we got exactly what we wanted - and more than we hoped for: a well equipped (for a tent/ cabana!) place to sleep and an open hearted welcome from Tommy to relax and join in with the rolling community of like minded characters who’ve made the effort to search out this far away and magical place! From the campfire side hammocks, showers open to the sun and stars and communal dining of perfect home cooked curries - everything is build around a happy hospitality and a real appreciation for the great experiences you can live - by making the most of simpler living. Waking up to an island with no cars, only the sound of nature is a rare treat. Tommys bikes - suitable battered from island life 😃 - made for a unique post sunrise cycle around deserted ‘roads’ to see wild horses, countless birds and amazing sea views and even an insane banyan tree… Tommy and his team have build exactly the kind of relaxing, barefoot stay that Delft deserves. A beautiful, remote, island where you can share the beach with absolutely no one….and then chill out (further!) in the Village Stay that Tommy has curated! Living proof you can tread lightly in your travels but experience more joy than you’ll ever get from some insta-perfect 5* resort that has no connection to the land, its location or the people lucky enough to choose to live in such a stunning but remote location!
