Summary: Our visit exceeded all our expectations. The house is like a paradise and our host treated us like family. We were 2 families, 8 in total and it was the perfect size (we booked the additional guest house and were glad we did) - but we could have had 2 more kids sleeping in various beds scattered throughout the house. The location is ideal - a quiet neighborhood with footpaths and shady trees making you feel like you’ve entered an enchanted garden. There are 2 great restaurants at the end of the path where the water taxi drops you off, and it was never more than 10 min to get to town (puerto ayora) via the water taxi (it’s the only way). Upon arrival Juan Carlos met us at the water taxi, helped us with our luggage and welcomed us to the island, spending at least an hour with us showing us every part of the house and talking to us about the island, helping us plan our stay. The kitchen in the house is adequate and has everything you need to cook simple meals, though it would have been nice for there to be some condiment staples like olive oil, ketchup etc bc everything is so expensive to buy on the island and if you’re there for a few days it’s not worth it. Juan Carlos provides huge unlimited bottles of mineral water which we were SO grateful for and worried before hand how we would have enough fresh drinking water for all of us (we drink a lot of water). He also provided all of us with snorkeling gear which was amazing, saving us money and more importantly time not having to find and rent them ourselves. There was housekeeping every day if we chose to request it and the housekeeper also did our laundry (again, so grateful). The outside space is really the star of this house - the pool is huge and we ate every meal out in the giant covered patio area and at night sat on the roof deck watching the stars and listening to the sound of the ocean. Even though it’s technically not waterfront, it’s close enough and you always feel like you’re at the ocean (and there is a small beach perfect for kids to swim and play at about 10 min walk). Our kids absolutely adored the house and basically cried the morning we left. I don’t know if we’ll ever be lucky enough to travel back to Galapagos but if we do, we will hope to stay here again!
