Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: On the positive side, we were served a lovely breakfast on the balcony which has impressive views over paddy fields, and the host was very communicative online, though absent from the property itself unlike most SL hosts.

Negative: This accommodation was a real shame, as it has so much potential. We booked for two nights but chose to leave after one for a few reasons. The location is extremely remote, with the nearest village around 5 km away. You really need your own transport, and the area doesn’t cater for tourists at all. Many restaurants were closed, and the Google reviews felt either very old or questionable. You also need transport to reach any of the nearby waterfalls or sights. The accommodation itself, although clearly crafted with care originally, now feels tired. It’s very open to the elements, which isn’t ideal for those uncomfortable with local mosquitoes and wildlife, the mosquito net was only just adequate. A large tree runs through the centre of the room. The bathroom is unique, but the pebble floor is quite uncomfortable, and during our stay the electric shower began smoking, which was very concerning. The accommodation is also expensive compared to others in SL. Overall, from a ‘Westerner’s’ perspective in such a remote situation, it needed a secure, enclosed room and perhaps more hands-on support from the owner. It will likely appeal to those seeking a very rustic, adventurous experience, but for us it was a step too far.

Summary: Great potential with a lot of tweaks.
