Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: It seems that the Avasta resort has been taken over by new management and improvements are being made all the time. The first room we were assigned seemed to have some problems with damp, so we asked for a change. The new room was large, clean and freshly painted. The bathroom was fine too, though the hot water never really worked. The best part of the resort is the garden with its lotus ponds, mango trees and resident birds and squirrels. The swimming pool is quite large, and a great place from which to observe the peaceful garden, though it needs a bit of a make-over due to some loose tiles. The Sri Lankan breakfast is generous and extremely tasty. Moreover, the distance to both the historic monuments and the train station is short, making this a very convenient place for sightseeing.

Negative: The resort has great potential and with a little more maintenance, such as improvement of the pool and former spa area, it will be an even better place in the future. Overall, having travelled around Sri Lanka for one month, we consider this place great value for money.
