Now, on to our story....
After the 8 children were raised, we transformed half of the second floor of our home into this 2-bedroom apartment. Besides the apartment space, all guests have full access to our downstairs living space, where there is a comfortable and quiet library for reading and our family living room for relaxing and/or watching movies. Guests may even use our family kitchen as long as you leave it clean with the dishes washed. We love to interact with and get to know our guests and so we open up the main living spaces of our entire home for use. Of course, if you prefer complete privacy within the apartment, we will respect your wish for whatever degree of privacy you may desire.
Once you arrive, you will find a key for the apartment in the lock box. During your stay, you may enter through the main house or the private entrance at the back of the house which leads directly into the apartment. There is a door between the apartment and the main house that can be locked.
Apartment features a full, spacious eat-in kitchen and partitioned bathroom with shower and tub (see photos). There is a private deck off the kitchen which is perfect for relaxing outside. The deck overlooks our 20-acre field, where you might see moose, deer, bears, or other wildlife. You will enjoy beautiful Aroostook County sunsets, a great view of the stars and Milky Way, and possibly even see the northern lights.
Overall, the space can accommodate 3 people very comfortably but can squeeze in up to 5 people in 2 bedrooms, plus a crib can be made available. The master bedroom contains one full-sized bed, and the second bedroom contains one twin-sized bed and a full-sized pull-out sofa bed (having the sofa bed opened up creates very tight living space but provides sleeping space if needed). Keep reading for information about Room #3, which can be added to the apartment.
For long-term guests, we can rearrange, add, or take away furniture to accommodate our guests' needs. For example, the second bedroom could easily become a designated living room by moving out the twin bed and moving in a chair or two and a coffee table. This would just need to be communicated to us.
For larger groups, additional rooms are available to rent in the main house. Room #3 is on the second floor and has a full-sized bed and ample floor space for a cot, air mattress or sleeping bag. Rooms #1 and #2 are on the first floor. Room #1 has two twin-sized beds and Room #2 has a queen-sized bed. And if that isn't enough, we have a full-sized pull-out sofa bed in the library/music room on the first floor. Laundry machines are available at no extra charge on the first floor in the main house. You may also borrow reading material from the library or our downstairs living room, as long as it is returned at the end of your stay.
We have free Wi-Fi, a TV with Chromecast (but no cable or satellite).
